Would it be wrong to invite a girl to a Rush concert?

I took my last girlfriend out to a Yes concert for our first date and thinking of something along the same lines for someone I meet in the future since I have an extra ticket to the upcoming August Rush concert in Seattle.

If she's the right one, then there will be nothing wrong, she'll dig it, and you'll live happily ever after. You might even have some beautiful kids. We just don't need to see them conceived; get a room.

I'm taking two girl friends of mine to a Cage the Elephant show, and my roommate is taking his girlfriend along to the Melvins and maybe the Primus show as well. She hasn't seen or even heard of either of them.

Went to a Clutch show in April with two other girls. It seems to be a tradition with me. I'm going to see if I can get/convince one of them to go to the Minus The Bear show as well.

Trust me, I wouldn't do that in front of Geddy.

Sounds like this plan works well for you. Last time when I took my ex to the Yes concert, I made her a two disc compilation CD set with songs I'd figure they would play so that she could get to know it better. She had never heard of Yes before I introduced her.

Rush is likable to just about anybody who likes that upbeat music with all three performers out there wailing on their instruments.

if you're going to take dates to Rush concerts, it would surely be cheaper just to sew your hand to your **** permanently?

Unless I take a girl on a date, my hand is there anyways!

Sidenote about my music taste and girls:

If she ends up liking Rush, then good for us, we'll have a good time. If she doesn't like Rush and hates the concert, then perhaps it's for the best of us that we don't see each other after that, anyways. My last girlfriend only liked about 5% of the music I liked which I found to be one of the root problems for the two of us. I listen to a lot of music just when I'm doing nothing and she does too--but when the other hears the other person's music, there is a clash and we give each other evil looks without asking the other to turn the music down, and I determined there definitely is an issue. Thus, whoever I want to spend the rest of my life with better be able to deal with listening to Rush

That film is quite amazing (Rush actually performed for the filming of the movie); although the movie itself was about a friendship between two guys who both loved Rush.

A) It's a movie and was fictional. Don't know if a girl would react like she did
B) She obviously never heard of Rush before it became a topic in the movie so that would explain why she didn't care for it at all, especially when her bf was giving his best friend high-fives and all that good stuff.
C) What if the girl had heard of Rush before? It'd be a totally different scenario regardless.

Does she like that kind of music? If she does, by all means take her to the concert. If she doesn't, go with someone else. Just investigate her likings first.

BTW, please free yourself from the outdated clliché 'girls are so stupid that can't apreciate music, they only like crappy sugar-sugar songs'. Because we rock too.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression of what I think of girls... I recognize that they have a taste of music just like anybody else, and they aren't, by any means, stereotyped for liking any certain kinds of music.

Previously I did state this though: as a guy, I am picky enough to state that the girl has to either be really open minded or have similar tastes in music as myself in order for this to workout. My gf's end up being my best friends as well as lovers and there are some things that I want to do in life with my girl next to me the whole way.

you're young....you'll eventually find out that this is not as important as other things.

If she likes rush, then definitely, if she doesn't, then definitely not. It all depends on the girl.

I'm completely understanding about chemistry, emotions, etc... but after my last experience I would really prefer if we share similar tastes in music--or appreciate music in a similar way. (i.e. I don't listen to the lyrics much, I listen to the instruments, pitches, and tones) Music is my life and it's really the only foundation I have to relate to other people. [thus explains why I'm having this conversation with other bass players ]

Also, pardon me for asking, but what is your signature supposed to be? I just see lines...

This seems like the most obvious answer from what many people have posted. I guess I'll just have to find out when I meet someone in between now and then.

I'll keep you guys posted if the ticket unfortunately goes up for sale :P

It's not normally the case for either gender. I know as many girls who like Herbie Hancock, Yes, Bela Fleck, The Who, and other musicians that you might consider "superior" as guys. Maybe I've been lucky, or maybe I subconsciously just avoid peope who listen only to hip-hop no matter how good (or bad) they look, but my experience does not support that stereotype.
