Would you buy a box

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking on Ebay at Rickenbackers. This guy is selling a 4001 C64S new in the box for $2,395. The only picture he has is a box. So I write him and ask him, how do I know your really selling a Rickenbacker, and how do I know it's not all banged up, the only picture you have is of a box. Then he writes me back all mad, " I've been selling Rickenbackers for 22 years and I have almost 1000 feedbacks." So then I write back, I'm not spending over $2000 for a box. Question is would you..........

send him a picture of a envelope claiming it has $2,395 and that you'll gladly trade the envelope for the box after the box arrives.

Thumbs up

Just went to the eBay page and saw the ''box" as well as the other Ricks for sale. Looks like its the same company for all items. Ricks were always nice looking and but the box looks better.....Didn't eBay once auction off a peanut butter sandwich or something that had G_D's image on it? Now what's really in that box?

Every one here should go on ebay and send this guy an email. "whats in the box". Maybe he would get the idea that a picture is a 1000 words.

I know a guy that use to sell boxes of electronics and people would buy it for the cost of the electronic. i.e. 32" magnavox LCD TV new box and would list everything written on the box, people would bid like $400 and he would send the box because it didn't say new in box it said new box.

why does his box say GLASS handle with care

A Cardboard Box?

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

Luxury! We dreamed of having a paper bag.

While the Python and Suess references are a joy to read, it depends on the feedback. Thousands of feedbacks and over 99% positive would entice me. Rickenbacker is pretty consistently good. The pictures don't really tell you _THAT_ much anyway. What's his return policy? eBay is so stacked in the buyer's favor in cases of disputes that you would probably be fine.

You just have to decide whether you're willing to pay that much money for that bass sight unseen - pretty much the same as buying a bass from Musician's Friend. If he's got thousands of positive feedbacks for selling moderately expensive instruments it's not like he's setting you up for the "big sting". I do know that as an eBay seller, "tire kickers" can drive you up the wall with questions and that buyer's can have unrealistic expectations. I'm glad I'm not doing much of it anymore.
