If you had to, would you give away your best bass or your best amp?

If someone put a gun to my head and made me choose, I'd rather give up an amp over a bass any day. Amp's come and go, as technology changes and upgrades are made, and are easily replaced if broken, stolen, or lost. A solid bass that you really connect with, which IMO would make it your "best bass", can not be easily replaced. You can have two amps of the same make and model, and they are virtually identical in every way. However, you can have two basses of the same make and model, and they will likely feel, play, and sound different enough for you to prefer one over the other.

My best bass, because I'm not 100% happy with it. I'd prefer to trade it in for a new one instead of giving it away though..

I went with the amp. Mines about 20 years old.

Amp. I have two "best basses" and I wouldn't part with either.

Naw, its my axe. I spent time "breathing" on it, setting it up, etc. Amp, whatever. I only have one player bass, and a bunch of wannabes. Theres a reason for that.

Theres a reason you bring an instrument to an open mic instead of an amp

Yep, and I agree because I ALWAYS use the PA system for performances anyway.

Plus, I'd be heartbroken without my Shergold. I love her.....

+ 1

I'd also add that its much more difficult to have your number one bass setup *exactly* the way you like it. What's the action like? How deep are the nut grooves cut? How's the truss rod set? What about pickup height? Fret buzz?

With an amp that you are famaliar with it should be set it and forget it (in a perfect world).

My Best Amp : Peavy MicroBass 20W Combo (~$100 USD)

Easy to choose, this one.

My best amp has been in the repair shop for months... it's like it has been given away.
