Writing lyrics..inspiration(what do you do)

Im putting together a band right now and have a few songs written. I would like to step it up a notch. I usually just listen to some of my fav bands and read their lyrics over and over. Any good tips? What is your song writing routine?

I actually use that method, too. Not all of my songs were written that way, but it's come in handy quite a bit.

Another thing I sometimes do is go into a parking lot, and watch for people. When I see an interesting person I make up a story about them then write it.

I never write anything until I feel like I have something I need to write. Then I write it down, let it lie for a week or two, then look at it again and take away all the parts that seem weak or stupid, then I've got some lyrics.

I was referring to writing lyrics. I've been writing a lot longer than I've been playing bass. Check out the link Yngwie 4String posted.
