How have your guys dealings with the used guitarcenter site been? I've contacted them about 3 basses now, and haven't got a reply in weeks! I'm just wondering how successful its been. It seems like an odd set up. I would have thought there would just be a "buy now" and "add to cart" kinda thing. Guess not.

I've had my best luck buying used gear from the local GC. Cant beat the return policy. If you want to buy from a distant GC and have something shipped it's about the same exerience as Ebay. Hit or miss depending on the salesman. I bought a used mint condition fender acoustic guitar amp from them and by the time it got to my house it wasn't mint anymore (worst packing job I've ever seen in my entire life). It still worked so I kept it, but I wasnt too pleased. I also bought an Aguilar GS-412 cab, paid via credit card and was really pumped about getting a real steal on it ($400 in mint condition) but was called a couple of days later and told that they decided to sell it to a local buyer instead (a day after selling it to me). Again, I wasn't too pleased. And for the last week I've been trying to lock down the sale of a vintage guitar tube amp combo but they're dragging their feet on giving me the shipping cost, I assume they would rather sell to someone local to save on the hassle of shipping.
The reason I keep going back in spite of a couple of bad experiences is they have a fantastic return policy on used gear (30 days, I think) and it can be returned to any GC. So if you don't like what you get - for any reason - just take it to the local store and get your money back, no questions asked.
PS - Don't bother selling or trading anything with them unless you really only want about half of what it's worth. |

I tried to buy an Alesis Micron which arrived DOA and when I called the store I ordered it from I couldn't get the guy I spoke to and the guy told me "sometimes we don't always check them before we ship them out." Then when I went to return it it ended up taking an hour and a half due to some procedural ******** with GC's inventory. My experience was a giant pain in the ass and about a 4-5 hour time waste. |

Often times the origin store will be glad to have it off it's hands if it's been there for a while, plus you get to throw some business to your local guy. If NOT, and they don't want to let it go, call the Sales Manager about getting the transaction done. He/she will have more time/patience/authority to get the deal done. Oh, and they WILL charge you sales tax on top of shipping. |

Shawn wasn't in today, so I'll see what is going on in the morning.
I'm in Canada, so there is no "local GC".

The guys I talked to were the epitome of great customer service. That said no matter where your shopping, if you're doing it by phone do not expect a call back unless you've made it crystal clear that you're are prepared to spend money. Be prepared to call them back if necessary and make it a habit for things that you are truly interested in.
