Yet another CL scammer!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm selling my Carvin combo amp which I listed on Craig's List as well as here on TB. I received an email earlier today asking if I still had it for sale. The person said he was very interested. I replied that yes, I still had it and to call me if he was serious about purchasing it.

Tonight I get this reply:

Sorry for the late response,
"I'm glad you still have it for sale,i would have love to come and see it,but my schedule is very tight.I will be mailing out your payment once you provide your full name.phone number and address.I can only pay via Corporate/Cashier check as am on a business trip now,pls let me know where to send your payment to because i wouldn't want to loose it to someelse.I don't mind adding fifty dollars so you can keep it in my favour, you should get your payment in 3-4working days.I will appreciate if you can get the ad off craigslist so i can be sure you are keeping it in my favour. Please let me know as soon as you receive this message so i can start making arrangement for the check to be sent,As per pick-up, I will make arrangement for the pick-up after payment has been received by you and cleared from bank.I can be reach at 7706517819
Thanks as i awaits your sincere response."

"keep it in my favour" Who uses language like that?

I think I'm about done putting stuff on CL. I'm so tired of all these scammers!

I get those all the time. You have to justify that you will not reply to emails saying "is this item still for sale?". Only reply to emails that have phone numbers.

I'm feeling the same way, trying to sell a jackson guitar and a few other things and keep getting different versions of this and this one:

everettujc095@aol.com to me
show details 3:07 PM (6 hours ago)
My family was having a problematic time due to the slow economy until
There was notified the gov is giving down green notes to Residents.

I did have no clue they were proceeding through this so I looked into this and found out it was true.

Plainly type out "gov wehp" into google so you can browse more
info on it so you too can help out your family members just like I did for mine.

Sincerly, Brace, Karen K

Now whats even the point of this one? I DON'T CARE!!! AND WHY IS MY MAILBOX GETTING FLOODED WITH THESE?!?!?!?!?! AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

Hi....did you call the number ? If he gave a number shouldn't be real if someone answers ? It's so hard to figure out what's real and what's not. Thanks

found this idea on a random forum, good idea

"One thing we've done with Craig's List is to put a note toward the bottom of each ad, similar to the following:

"Please add the word 'FIZZY' somewhere in the subject line of your message, or else we might not respond to your e-mail!"

If you have several items on Craig's List you can change the 'word' to be different silly or unusual words -- helps to keep each ad reply separate. This really seems to have worked as we know which replies are from an actual person who's read the ad!!!"

don't know if i should credit anyone for this but thought I'd spread their insight

Never respond to anything that isn't local pick-up, thats what C/L says at least, I've heard some real horror stories about fake money orders and the like

What i usually do is respond with something like this...
Be sure to use the name of the sender of the email ....

Got it!

Objective is identified as ___________ (whatever senders name is.) We shall meet at West Point Cafe and I do require half of payment upfront. Once objective has been neutralized i will notify you via email and then you will have 24hrs to deliver the remaining balance to the account # you stated in your reply... ( 7706517819)

Please be assured that this task will be handled with the utmost discretion and I do expect to be compensated for my assistance in your situation. Any deviation from this point forward is forbidden and will be addressed accordingly....

See you soon.

Usually once i send this the scam emails stop....

Just delete the scam emails. Stop being such a drama queen.
