Yet another straplock thread

OK, so straplocks hold your strap on. But I'm worried about all of these stories I've heard about stripping, screws too big small, etc. I really don't want to drill, cram toothpicks, or squirt glue into my brand new jazz.

Are these issues common? Would the schaller or dunlop screws fit a standard american jazz hole without drilling?

I've heard something about rubber washers too...

I would say a small amount of drilling or filling to fit straplocks is small price to pay if it guarantees the long term safety of your invest in a quality instrument. Don't you?

i popped dunlop strap locks straight into the existing holes of my CIJ jaguar bass with only a dab of candle wax on the tread (i screwed it in the candle).

as for the rubber washers, you know that beer (lager) which comes with a top that attaches with a brace of metal and a top with a little rubber bung? you take the rubber bung/washer and pop it over the strap button after you put the strap on the bass and its REALLY hard to het it off now

yeah thats the one, just didnt want a free AD for them (im a newcastle brown ale man myself, brought up a few miles from the brewery didnt help that matter either hehe).

i would say dont be too scared about popping in straplocks, ive only had to redrill one hole in my 5 basses and it was my cheapest bass £110 ebay.

just remember to wax the screw thread a little before hand driving it in (dont use an electric or battery screwdriver/power drill/driver as the torque it too much and can damage the bass easily

Alright...hand torquing doesn't worry me that much, I think it's imagining the sound of a power tool digging into the axe that's scary
