Hey:

Need some suggestions on some modern software to create a modern, slick band website - maybe flashobjects sort of stuff.

I have web skills - but they are somewhat dated. I can do, and have done, decent sites using HTML and java, utilizing Netobjects Fusion software.

see my site on my signature -- nothing spectacular, but I did try and keep it simple.

if anyone out there uses something that would be easy to pickup but would give me a flashier, more modern website, drop me a note or reply here. thanks.

You can download a demo(I think) and make some nice flash banners.
Its alot easier than flash to pick up.

Get up to scratch with XHTML + CSS and all you'll need is a text editor and some imagination. I think half the battle in getting a modern looking page is getting some decent graphics. If all you've got is grainy .jpgs and a multitude of animated .gifs then no one is going to take you seriously - I'd advise making friends with a Photoshop whiz .

Totally.

Keep it clean and simple. Avoid anything that needs plugins, animations, sound, flash etc etc....

Your audience wants to know when your next gig is, and maybe look at some pictures. You can add other stuff, but just remember less is more. If i go to a band site and get the "loading..." type flash intro screen, chances are the window is closed before it reaches 100%.

And TEST, TEST, TEST. I have 4 web-browsers on my mac, and 2 on the PC (and I check the site from the machines at work too). Make sure that the site works on different systems.

Ian
