Are you into bands, music or both?

I was talking to a friend today who is an avid fan of a few bands and knows everything about them, who they are, how they formed, where and when they are touring etc etc, most loved and hated songs (that he still listens to) and as we were chatting it became apparant to him that while I enjoy listening to a variety of music, I'm not really "into bands" as far as being a fan and finding out about members etc goes.

My friend found this rather odd given I play an instrument in a band. He was quite blown away by it. Even with music I consider myself a fan of, I rarely seek out private knowledge of the authors or their lives, seeking instead tunes I love and rotating them healthily through my mp3 player.

So I thought a poll was in order, and a discussion if you wish

I voted "music" in the poll but I could have chosen "both" also. Essentially, it is the of course the music that I'm most interested in, but when I buy a CD it's always a band or solo artist. I can't recall when I last bought a compilation. I enjoy reading the booklet that usually follow and that one always sucks on compilation CD:s. It's interesting to read about the band, who's playing on what track, who has produced the album etc. Those things are fun to check out and nice to know.
