Are you a musiscian, or a Bass player?

Sign in to disble this ad
Sometimes people make the mistake of calling me a musician,
when I have no classic training, I'm self taught, don't read standard notation, have no idea what certain numbers mean(but can name all notes), and play by ear. I always say humbly, no, I am a bass player. Do I qualify as a musiscian?
Anyone else share this feeling?

I am a musician... my instrument of choice is bass guitar.
Before bass I was a classical trained clarinetist.

I consider myself a player.
Have had a ton of education/experience, but musician sounds too formal.

I am a musician, even though I choose the bass as my main instrument. In fact, every bass brings out a different facet6 of my personality

According to the dictionary, if you perform music, you're a musician. I'd say I'm a musician.

Musician with specialization on the bass I'd say.
Other instruments are there too.
I know theory, I understand standard notation, and i can write my own songs (all instruments).

I say musician and my instrument is bass. It's the same as the difference between playing the bass and being a bassist.

I'm a musician and my instrument is bass... this would be so even if I had no classical training.

For the record I know some people with classical trainign who I wouldn't consider musicians

I'm a bassist when I work on my own parts, and a musician when I arrange and help the other guys work out their parts.

Moved to Misc.

And I'm a musician who chooses to explain what I'm feeling through bass.
