Your Desert Island Rig.

Sign in to disble this ad
As a burgeoning gear whore, I'm curious what people would use if they had *only* the following:

one bass
one amp/cab
one effect (pedal or otherwise)

As this is a true "desert island" discussion, yes, you would have to use the rig for everything from poolside punk to studio, to stadium. Whatever you got, you gotta make it work for everything.

Is there a Macgyver setup? If I knew, I'd have a whole room of my house back.

You can do anything on any bass or amp as long as it works and has enough power to cut the gig. Having said that, I do have my favorite:

PJ into a vintage SVT/810

That would be my desert island rig.

I'd be happy with my original setup...

'65 Gibson Eb-0 modified (80's emg select pup installed, all plates removed)
Yamaha JX30b 1x15 (outfitted with a pyle audio 15" speaker)
digital tuner

Don't need anything fancy to tool around the fretboard with.

I think Phil Jones makes a solar powered combo amp which, since this is a desert island, would give me the only rig listed here that would produce sound. That plus my Fodera and a tuner.

I can only have one cab? Fine.

Rickenbacker 4003
Mesa D-180
Ampeg 2x15
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff

Unless of course a tuner counts as an effect. In that case I would go with tuner.

Or if I'm allowed to be totally ridiculous,
Same bass
Custom (possibly Verellen) amp based on the D-180, but with boostable mids and 500 watts of tube power
Electric 4x15 or custom 4x10/2x15. Yes.
Electro-Harmonix Holy Stain (distortion + reverb) unless of course, tuners are considered effects pedals.

I already have the amp and cab and pedal. I just need to come up with the disposable cash to get the bass.

--- Gene Liberty custom bass with EMG J's quilted maple neck-thru body

--- Mesa/Boogie Basis M-2000 head

--- TL606 1x15" cabinet w/EVM 15L driver

--- EHX MicroPog
