Your Favorite brand of gig bag-sound off |

| | | | This topic is typically handled in the Misc. section.
If you search the following brands in that portion of the site, you will get a lot of information on the higher end hybrid bags:
Mono
iGig
inCase or Slimbag (these 'might' be discontinued)
ProTec or Contego
Sadowsky or Portabag.
All are good in their own way, depending on budget, pocket size required, protection required, and strap design preference IMO.
If lightweight and amount of protection is key, and you don't need a ton of pocket space, the Mono bag is amazing, and the Mono double is the best design I've yet seen yet for a two bass bag.
If you are one that carries a LOT of stuff around, and/or needs a bag that you can carry a micro head and all the associated cables in, then the iGig bag (forgot the model, but it will be obvious if you visit the website, since they show pictures of it with a Walter Woods in the front pocket) is the 'best of class' IMO.

| | curiously looking back at what once was beautiful | | Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Oregon | | | Reunion Blues. After years of heavy use and abuse, the all-important shoulder straps are still just like new. No lame narrow nylon webbing stitched to the outer surface - these guys use heavy duty canvas w/ solid brass rivets.
I was disappointed when they couldn't help me with a zipper glitch, beyond offering to sell a replacement zipper or give a rebate toward a newer bag. (Apparently they've re-tooled for a whole different construction method...)
But the zipper seems to be healing itself now. After a year wrestling with a more awkward, less durable other brand, I'm ready to bump this old Reunion Blues back up to main gig bag status.
When I find a local guy who'll take it on, it should be worth the cost to redo the zipper - I'll be set for another 10+ years. Next time I invest in a whole new rig, I'll likely stick with Reunion Blues.
For less $$$ Levy's is great. Not as durable but very comfy and well well-designed IME.

I used the heck out of mine for about 15 years, and the zipper finally gave out. I sent the bag back and it was totally refurbished for free. However, I believe they went out of business a while back and then started up again without the founder, and I don't think it's quite the same company.
Also, IMO, once these new hybrid bags came out, I moved away from the more traditional design. These hybrids offer a lot more protection, and are lighter weight... that's a good combination for me! |

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | I have a Fender Deluxe gig bag that I like a lot. If I had a really nice bass I needed to put into a bag, I'd get a Bodyglove hybrid.

He sold the company and they took all production off shore. He still makes his own bags to his own standards and they are beautiful. I BELIEVE he will refurbish/repair old RB bags too - Jefenator, you may want to email him and ask.
Anyway, his bags are around the same $$$ as RB, and as good as they get IMHO. I have 2 of his leather bags and could use a couple more. |

With the old RB bag back in ship shape and a new one of similar or better quality, I would be a very happy lad.

Large pockets, very sturdy. Comfortable wide shoulder straps.
Not too expensive either

| | <-- That guy looks like me, but old. | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Arlington TX | | | I love my Levy's double bag. I've gotten twelve or thirteen good years out of it and it's going strong.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I don't gig anymore. So it gets out of the house ten or twelve times a year now, instead of ten or twelve times a month.
