Guitar player was my teacher, actually taught like a bass player and would often tell me to simplify my lines and carry the groove, especially when I did a different bassline for one of thier songs and took it to him. Awesome tech too. Berklee graduated but says he doesn't use it much in this band. http://www.myspace.com/therockitking

They are one of the top bands ever to come out of Arkansas (yeah, I know), but they really get the job done. Think in terms of Allman Brothers, Black Crowes, Gov't Mule.
They had a very successful tour of Europe in 2006. Just before they left, my guitarist and I got to join them on stage for a couple of songs (at their advance invitation, so we had our bass and guitar).
Honorable mention...Lee Yankie Band in the Pensacola FL area. The band is pretty good, but the bass player is absolutely phenomenal. His name is Derek Jones, and he has no idea how good he is. I watched as he played several different styles, brilliantly and effortlessly. I could tell his influences...from Jaco to Jamerson to Stanley Clarke to Marcus Miller...but he had a style all his own. This guy needs to be playing in a studio somewhere or on a big stage, instead of at the FloraBama on a Sunday night...proof that the talented players don't always get the opportunity to show their gifts.
