Your strange ambitions

What are your more oddball musical ambitions? The kind of stuff most other bassists would think is weird or pointless or just plain stupid?

One of mine is to get a label to pay for a run of women's underwear with a band logo. Looks like that is going to happen soon. I've also convinced another label to put together a metal tribute to Army Of Lovers which should be out next year. A less likely dream is for a song I play on to be used in a TV commercial... that one started off with me joking that one of my pop band's droniest songs would be good for one of those weird and artsy perfume ads.

As far as ones already fulfilled, my old ambition to release something on vinyl before that medium goes the way of the dinosaurs became a reality several times. I also finally figured out how to cross hip-hop with country a few weeks ago (see http://www.myspace.com/goatbomb). I guess I've got a decent track record when it comes to doing stuff that the vast majority of musicians would have no interest in.

o man this thread is for me

a few years back i got really into instrument design, and then harmonic theory, and then scale design (generating scales outside of 12 equal). at this point i don't really do anything in 'normal music' unless i'm being paid.

as far as ambitions go, i've been contemplating getting a group of some sort together...but there's the big decision of what scale to commit yourself to and modify instruments for; not to mention having to teach all that junk to the other members

Are you kidding? All of my musical ambitions are considered "oddball" by most of the musicians I know. Even my most commercial aspirations are considered "oddball" by most of the musicians I know. I live on the fringe.

As for my non-musical ambitions, well... let's just say that any detailed description would automatically violate the TB Terms Of Service.

To put together a metal band (one with a deep screaming singer) and play Ashlee Simpson - L.O.V.E.

One performance. One song. Thats it.

I think I'd be hard pressed to find a bunch of metal guys that would be game though and I don't think metalheads have senses of humor.

That's exactly what mandolinists do when playing violin reportoire - tremolo all the long notes.

Cool, I didn't know that! I got the idea from hearing some mandolin playing with lots of reverb that created very ethereal harmonics.

scsm - sounds like a great idea to me. Sadly, though, there are too many metalheads who take their metalness too seriously.

I want to build my own double-necked bass guitar. With a whammy bar.

I actually figured out the specs of how to do it. The hard part is actually building it.
