Question Zeppelin time sig question

Sign in to disble this ad
What time signature is the fade out riff in Achilles Last Stand? My friend says it's 4 but wen I try counting it as 4 it sounds a little off. I can't count it as 7/8 either, so I think it's somewhere in between those (15/16?) but I'm really not sure.

What do you guys think?

The song is in four except for the riff where the bass and guitar play unison E for 5 beats and then unison C for 5 beats. This part is in 5/4

It's in 4/4. I'd arrange it for two guitars like this:

Hear it in MIDI format here.

Hope this helps.

It's 4/4. The riff probably sounds "off" because the low note each time is just before the first beat of the bar. Try singing it slowly whilst tapping the beat steadily with your hand and this should be readily apparent.

So, the bottom line... remember that riffs don't always have to start exactly on the first beat of the bar.
