Zero to stardom in ???

Sign in to disble this ad
My drummer raised this question: What is the shortest time that someone went from total newbie to good/great/star-quality proficiency? Someone who never played any instrument and has risen to fame and fortune.

Any ideas? (Define the parameters how you may).

Of course, he wants us to name names and give times...

you mean, fame and fortune playing an instrument - without every having played an instrument?

Sid Vicious comes to mind, from not being able to play bass to world famous (and still not being able to play bass) in a matter of months. Though I'm sure that's not what you meant...

And don't forget that Sid also holds the record for zero to stardom to zero category as well.

Yes.

But having acquired proficiency.

My first thought was Esperanza Spalding. But didn't she play brass before the bass?

Oh, and it need not be bass, either, for the question.

Maybe someone who started with the Bert Weedon book, "Play in a Day" and actually took it literally...

Thomas Erak of the rock/harcore band Fall of Troy started playing guitar in 2000. the band recorded their full length in 2002 and got signed soon after and it was all up hill from there.

Sevendust reached a high level of stardom in a very short amount of time, and I think Creed only spent a few short weeks/months playing local gigs before getting signed. Beyond that, I do not know.

Just a few. He is in his mid 20's.

He is eligible for the Zero to good award.
