Some of the greatest and most recognizable lines are really simple. Pink Floyd's Money, Queen's Another One Bites the Dust, and Ozzy's No More Tears come to mind.
I have found that, for me, simple basslines work the best. Not because I can't handle more complex lines but because I can feel the groove better. Why over play when you don't have to?
Bassist like Dusty Hill, Cliff Williams (AC/DC), Stu Cook (CCR), Gene Simmons (KISS), Ian Hill (Judas Priest), Tim Commerford (RATM, Audioslave), etc... they all keep it pretty simple and it works. |

Now when we played it the bass was way more out in front than in the original. |

Very simple. Very effective...

MM | Agreed. When the guitar is playing that part, I always played straight. When the guitar started soloing I would play the syncopated part. |

Syncopation is when you accent off beats. For example, most rock accents the 1 and 3 beats. Accenting the 2 and 4 is simplest form of syncopation.
In the La Grange example the guitar accents the 1 but then accents the second part of the beat rather than the beat itself. Gives it a very driving beat.
I am sure somebody will explain it better. |
