Any advice for outdoor gigs?
I have recently started a trio (DB-acoustic guitar-alto sax) and we are planning to play outdoor gigs, with no amplification of course. We play standards and swing classics so i mostly play with a two beat feel. Do you have any advice for me as far as the volume of sound is concerned? I have the feeling that even though i pluck hard, people wont be able to hear the bass. I considered started slapping, since it would also give me a more retro-vintage sound. Any advice for me, or my band in general?
With that trio, I don't think being heard should be an issue. When playing unamplified, I've always found that the bass is better heard 10 feet away than it is right on stage. I've play ampless gigs where I thought I really had to play hard to be heard, only to be asked to "turn down" (though that might have as much to do with the quality of my playing as the volume :smug:).
