Bass-happy soundtrack

Okay, so it's all slab. Shoot me, I don't care.

Watched "Ratatouille" last night in our home theater. Abe Laboriel all over the soundtrack from top to bottom. Great flick, BTW. What a monster bassist. If you rent it, stick around for the closing credits, there's a couple of bars of him soloing that will send any slabber back to the shed.

The music itself is cool, kind of a fusion of jazz and French music. Really nice.

Yeah, he's been around for awhile on more records than most people realize. I remember seeing him when Al Jarreau first came out. Talk about solid groove. He and Richard Bona are probably two of my favorite electric players. I wonder if Abe plays upright?

Crap, we bought that and I've watched it several times (4-year-old son) and never really listened. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yeah! I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that! I remember when I stuck around in the theater after watching it because it was raining outside, at the end credits there was some sick bass playing going on. I was thoroughly impressed. I didn't realize that it was Abe Laboriel playing.

I remember thinking while watching "Damn, sounds like Abe"... but I only confirmed it here in this thread. He's so fluid, and he doesn't really always lay in the pocket like most guys, but he always grooves really hard. He seem able to float between nice melodic playing and laying it down almost seamlessly.

If you want to hear some good Jazz DB playing on a film soundtrack - pick up MirrorMask on DVD!!

Great original music on this, composed by Ian Bellamy - with his regular Jazz group featuring Steve Watts on DB.

Yea Baby V. loves that movie. I'm convinced it's cause of the bass.
