Bass problem - makes awful noise

I ordered this Engelhardt bass online and everything is great, but when I play arco it just makes a terrible mechanical whining noise. Does this mean the sound post is loose?

which end of the bow are you using? The part that looks like hair goes towards the strings.

i have a similar issue with my chinese bass, but the whining doesn't start until about high B-C in thumb position. oddly, higher than that it goes away. in my case i think it's the fingerboard (along with crappy technique), as it only occurs in that one spot. does your bass whine all over the board?

My bass makes an awful noise as well (pizz or arco). Then I let someone else play my bass, and it stops!

I point the hair part of the bow away from the LCD screen. Just look at the original link to see what I mean.
