Bass safety/protection

Hello all,

First off, im sorry for the title as i cant think of the right one:P

anyways, What is the best way to keep your bass when your not using it, put it in a case? lay it on the ground ? lay it against a corner ? and please be specific when you answer say "on the ground", so for example you can say on the ground laying on the side etc.

Sorry for my bad english :P

I like to put it in the corner with the bridge facing in and the shoulders resting on the wall. Its hard to do any real damage to the back.

I lie it on the ground on the passenger side a lot when playing, and try to protect the bridge by putting it near a solid object.

Its not just the dislocation of the bridge that worries me. The bass bar can be popped off or broken if you hit the bridge on the end.

I really like the way that Hammond Ashley hangs them from the scroll, but none of the places that we play have that kind of setup! :-)

Except for RARE occasions, when my bass isn't in my hands it is in its stand. When I play, I've got a real problem laying it down in the same Zip-Code as people consuming alcohol. It's uncanny how a drunk can find an instrument to trip over.

Drunks and kids.
When we were much younger, my oldest brother kept his bass in the corner of the living room. We really didn't use the living room much so it was a good location. That was until a family friend brought their Satan spawn with them. Within 5 minutes it had found the bass and attacked. Over goes the bass. Head hits the coffee table. Sproing! Neck separated from the body. Much apologies and cash later, the bass is repaired. He kept it in his room after that, as did I. We both kept them on the floor on their sides.

Hello all, Great advice

so the bass on it sides is better than having it standing against a corner in a room ?

does the neck/Fingerboard/scroll get damaged if i make it stand in the corner or lay it on its sides ?

Thanks

The only damage would be a little bit of wear on the edges of the instrument. When you lay it on it's side try to not slide it on the ground. If you put it in a corner you can either put padding on the wall or try putting a towel around the edges that would touch the wall.

I keep my bass in a stand by a corner that is kind of out of the way.

I drilled two holes in opposite sides of the corner in my practice room and screwed in two eye holes. When Im not using the bass it goes in the corner with the bridge facing in and I tie a shoelace through the two eye holes and the shoelace goes around the neck of the bass to prevent it from falling.

Always the best solution, if you have a stand that is.
Otherwise...
