Beginner Double Size

I'm looking to start playing a little double bass, and I've seen basses of all size, mainly 3/4 and 4/4, etc.

What would be the best size to start on (and probably stay on)?

A little double bass? How about a violin?

Sorry. 3/4 is the industry standard I guess, with lots of flexibility within that category. It's been discussed a lot here, check out the newbie threads.
