As far as I know, T. Michael always plays slab. See earlier Seldom Scene with the great Tom Grey (Gray?)

And as a bonus 'Manzanita' is the best solo Sam Bush ever recorded, mistake and all!

I don't know about the whole 'ahead of the beat' thing that y'all were talking about earlier; one of my favorite acoustic bassists is Dennis Crouch, who played with the Nashville Bluegrass Band for years, did the "Down From The Mountain" tours (backing a bunch of the artists) and was on the sound tracks of Cold Mountain, Oh Brother Where Art Thou and that Johnny Cash movie. And I think he's touring some with T-Bone Burnette, who hired him for all that soundtrack work...

Dennis plays pretty deep in the pocket. And his note choices are quite unusual. But they work. Besides that, he swings like a maniac. He works in town with a western swing group called The Time Jumpers go to the Music section of their web site ( www.thetimejumpers.com ( and listen to the live version of Route 66 to see what I mean...
