Bow Re-Hair For My Lead Guitarist

I don't know a whole lot about bowed instruments so I thought you guys could help.

The lead guitarist in my band uses a bow on a couple tunes a la Jimmy Page. His bow needs to be re-haired and we're not sure exactly what to do. The bow didn't cost much so we're wondering if it's even worth re-hairing. Also we're wondering if he should consider synthetic bow hair for this application. Would it last longer?

Thanks

Well, if it's part of his sound and it needs a rehair, then that's what he needs to do. But I have a friend, a good jazz violinist, who just buys cheapo Ebay bows and plays them until the hair wears out, and then he gives them away. I was skeptical, but he swears by it.
