Cars for bass

Hey everyone, I was simply curious on what kind of car everyone drives to transport their double basses.

I recenltly bought a PT Cruiser which suprisingly works perfectly for a String bass, I can even fit two other people in the car and none of my views are absrtructed. Any other PT Cruiser bassists out there??

I'm a beginner so I've only done it a few times but the bass fits fine in my Mercury Grand Marquis with the front passenger seat reclined all the way. I have two car seats in the back and I had to move them together. I think we could all still fit but the passenger in the front would be a little cramped.

I drive a honda CRV and I can fit 2 basses and two people in the car quite comfortably. I've managed to stuff three basses in there before but at that point, visibility is really bad.

Subaru forester....2 basses, 1 2 x 10 cab + head, a music stand, a dolly and a drum kit. No I couldn't see out the back, but I went where no bassist has gone.

Back when I was still playing double bass, my folks had a '78 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a '74 VW Beetle. The bass was a much better fit in the Bug. No kidding.

(Man am I getting old.)

Honda Element here...
IMO, the ultimate musicians vehicle
Can easily fit my electric rig, DB rig or both.

I have a GMC Sierra ext cab PU. You could probably get 30-40 basses in there if you ground them up fine enough.

Seriously, I have a rack that I have built from a couple of 2x4s that allows the bass to sit in there, not slide around and be protected from any other gear that is back there. The water-tight hard tannau cover keeps everything safe and dry.

If it is REALLY hot or cold and the trip more than a few miles, take our van.

I normally don't post like this, but I need a break from the admin hat today

Toyota Matrix. 3 of us bassists in the Austin Symphony drive the same color blue Matrix (finding the right one after a gig is fun). The Matrix is perfect - not quite as much room as a PT probably, but fits a 4/4 size bass and stool + 1 passenger fine, over 30mpg, and it's a Toyota

Used to use a Honda Element, which worked fine.
Just got this though, same color and all. Also fits easily with 2 cabs, head, upright, stand, microphone/stand, gigbag, back-up acoustic bass and wife.

Hey, Zulu, I was just checking those out. Looks like a perfect Maui bass mover.

Unfortunately, I just bought my wife a new CR-V, so it's gonna have to wait.

My ride holds 40 people and I have an entourage following me all the time.

I take the bus.

Funny you should mention, the wife drives a Matrix. You're right, not quite as roomy as my PT but plenty big enought as a DB hauler.

Oh and it is champagne so it is invisible to cops!

A Volvo 240 Wagon will hold four basses and two people, properly loaded. Great car, too.

This is fun, I started this same topic back in Sept. I wound up w/ a hyundi accent hatchback. basses can fit in many sub-compact cars. I went for the cheapest economy car with decent reviews I could find. I was tempted by the PTC, love ther retro look. Can I borrow Yours to show up to a gig with class? lol
