Chicago Bass Festival

The Chicago Bass Festival takes place this Sunday, February 7, at Ravinia in Highland Park, IL. Jason Heath of Contrabass Conversations has organized this event made up of concerts, masterclasses and other bass geek stuff. I'll be doing a jazz master class at 1:00PM and hope to have four or five bassists perform. So if interested, bring your axe and a tune!

Well crud. I'd have liked to look in on this, but we have a foreign exchange student and my weekend is fully booked.

Let us know how it went.

Cool. I saw a thing about that. Sounds really cool. I'd like to come. I have a two-fer Saturday and the fam might want me around Sunday but I'll try.

Thumbs up

The Festival was quite a success with over 150 participants. I had 30 or so bassists at my clinic and we heard 5 play, high school and two adult players. I wasn't able to attend any of the other clinics or the concert finale, but with the roster of clinicians and performers, I'm sure they were great. There were a number of great basses on display too, from Guarneri House, A440 Music, Sonksen Strings and Christopher.

Ken McKays cornerless bass was there, Martin Sheridans's Villaume attributed bass, and many others, including the removable neck Christopher in it's flight case (which looks to be a very nice system).

Jason Heath did a great job putting this together!

Darn!!!! I have a brief that needs to be filed today so it was no go for me, but I'm glad the turn out was that good. Given the fact it was Super Bowl Sunday, it was very good.

I hope this becomes an annual event.
