| Chicago Gigspam - Dec 28 & 29 On Dec 28 and 29 I'll be at Pops for Champagne at State and Ohio. I've played this room a bunch of times and I think it is one of the best listening rooms in the city. The added bonus on this one is we will be joined by some superb Chicago talent subbing for various regular members of the band that will be absent due to holiday travel. I feel very fortunate to be playing with such fantastic subs. Hopefully I don't get my butt kicked too bad.
Here is the official press release. "Big Guns Go Pops
Many thanks to all of you who came to see us last weekend at Pops for Champagne... one of our favorite places in Chicago for jazz.
Our weekend engagement was, as usual, a great time. But if you missed it, don't worry. We'll be back December 28th and 29th, bringing out some big guns.
On Friday the 28th we're featuring Chicago's own Ryan Cohan on piano, one of the jazz world's top players and a good friend to the band. On a set break, ask Ryan about his great new CD "One Sky," and his upcoming tour of Africa, where he and his band will be "ambassadors for jazz" for The Rhythm Road -- a very cool project from Wynton's Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. State Department.
Saturday night we're fortunate to once again have Damian Espinosa at the piano. Damian, too, is one of the best players out there, as anyone who heard us last weekend can attest.
Last but not least, on both nights, catch Frank Parker on drums. Frank plays regularly in town with Orbert Davis and Kurt Elling, and has worked with just about everyone else -- Freddie Hubbard, Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton (three of my favorite trumpeters), as well as Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, Benny Carter and many, many more.
So come on out, 601 N. State (corner of Ohio), 9pm-1am on both nights.
You'll be glad you did."
