Last time I went, (back in Sept.) I went to Andy's and saw some pretty good stuff... no one "famous" though. This time I wanted to maybe see someone well known. Is there any type of web site that has a "Jazz Events/ Happenings" calendar? I'm hoping there will be something good!

(The Showcase is moving, so I'm not sure if it'll be up and running by then, but I hope so) http://www.petemillers.com/evanston/jazz/
(Has live jazz every night. It's in Evanston, but that's barely a drive north.) http://www.cso.org/main.taf?erube_fh...SearchEvents=1
(Apparently Keith Jarrett will be there on the 17th. Damn. Probably should get tickets to that one soon...)
If not those, there's always little in and out places to check too (Andy's, Hot House, Velvet Lounge, etc...)
Have a great time. It's a fabulous city! |

I also like smooth jazz...

In addition, you might want to check out the Intercontinental Hotel (Michigan Ave.) and see if Judy Roberts is there. Green Dolphin Street is another place. Like fingers said, it's a pretty diverse scene and I'm sure you'll be able to find something that'll float your boat!! Have fun!

The son will carry on for the father (I forget which one is which, Wayne or Joe Seigal).
In any case, it's a d*** shame.

HOTEL PULLS THE PLUG
ON POPULAR JAZZ ACT
Howard Reich
CHICAGO TRIBUNE
Published September 25, 2006
One of the most celebrated, long-running gigs
in recent Chicago jazz history
abruptly came to an end over the weekend.
Singer-pianist Judy Roberts, a popular
attraction in the swank lounge of the
InterContinental Hotel on North Michigan Avenue,
was told by hotel management
last week that the hotel was suspending its
music policy, she said.
Late Friday she bade farewell to her audience,
singing tunes such as "I'll Be
Seeing You" and "In a Sentimental Mood."
As usual, she was accompanied by her husband,
saxophonist Greg Fishman.
Hotel management declined to comment Sunday.
Roberts launched her InterContinental engagement
in 1991 and has held the piano chair there since,
except for a two-year period starting in 2001
(when others were featured). With its sidewalk-level
view of the Michigan Avenue bustle,
the InterContinental lounge long has ranked among
the city's most popular after-hours spots, with Roberts
playing Thursdays through Saturdays.
"I feel bad--we have so many fans who don't know"
about the end of the run, Roberts said.
Roberts still plays Sundays at Chambers Restaurant in
Niles and has other ongoing engagements
Judy Roberts and Greg Fishman will perform
Tuesdays 6pm-9pm
at Cuatro 2030 S. Wabash ave in Chicago.

Funny thing is that I was there, I think in June, playing upstairs in one of the rooms and I went downstairs to hear her.
