This song was written maybe 5 years ago, but has never been played. Partially because it requires a quintet or better, but also partially because it's much cleaner and hipper in my head than I seem to be able to notate. So, I invite and would appreciate full feedback on it.

Let me describe a bit, what I didn't attempt to notate. The Intro/Outro is what it says it is, 8 bars in front and back of the whole tune to establish that theme. The form is A - A - B - A. I normally write out the last A, but I wanted it to fit on one page and the intro/outro took space. I hear over the intro/outro and A sections a "Sing Sing Sing'esque" floor tom pattern. The bridge goes to a hard swing. The solos are played in time without an arrangement. Should be a '60's hard bop feel; think Mobley/Morgan.

This is a concert chart, by the way, despite the horn specifications.

Oh, all rights reserved as usual.
I finally have a referancable recording of this tune and would love your feedback on it. I've still got some tweaking to do with it, but it's at least representative of what I intended. And, it's a ****load of fun to play. Please give it a whirl and let me know your thoughts.

It should auto-stream when you open my site, at least for now. If you're looking back on this thread someday, you may have to click through the media player to find "Next To You".

Last disclaimer: This was a quick rehearsal recording, yada, yada, yada.

Troy,
The tune and band sound great! I wish I could make it to the gig on the 12th, but Laura and I are headed for a weekend away. Make sure you let me know about the next date...
John

Okay, let's wake up an old thread. I've had a bunch of complicated, klugey things in the works forever that are going no where and then this. I hammered out a minor blues one day. I kind of like it. I've never really written a blues before, at least not one that I thought was worth playing and keeping around. Would love critique.

I'm feeling it somewhere around 100bpm or so.

Glad this thread resurfaced. I'll check this out Troy. I've been slammed with doing my ****ing taxes the last few. Being a freelance musician really sucks come tax-time.
