Has anyone gotten a good deal out of Craigslit? any good stories?
I check out the classified section once in a while but all I've seen were the Palatino kind of bass for about $1400!!!

Bijoux-
I've bought and sold musical items on Craigslist. I don't see it as any different from other advertising.
I enjoy seeing the items listed that are overpriced or claim to be vintage/investor quality. Some folks get emotionally attached to their stuff and really don't want to let it go.

When I buy from a Craigslist advertiser, I expect the seller to dicker with me and I expect a bargain. If I think the seller is trying to gouge me or gives me the "FIRM" flag, I walk. That's what eBay is for. Likewise, when I sell via Craigslist, I know for a fact that I end up asking significantly below street value for the item. I price it a few bucks higher and let the prospective buyer talk me down. The buyer feels they got a deal, which they did because I let it go below street value, and I move stuff quickly via Craigslist. It's just a shade different from a garage sale IMHO.

For me, it's very similar to what we have here on TB classifieds, people who just want to move stuff and not make a profit. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

does happen! I got my late 1800's tyrolean flatback off CL for under 3K. Great freakin deal. Did have to put a little work into it (FB, endpin, set-up, etc.) But it's the best bass I've ever owned, and all came in under 5,000!

There was a thread not too long ago where a TB'er was looking at a Rickenbacker bass he saw on Craigslist. He couldn't believe the seller only wanted $500.00, so he posted some pics and info. We all chimed in that it certainly seemed like the real thing (not a copy) and helped that guy score a beautiful Jetglo Ric for $500.00!

So yes, it does happen.

i got my very first bass on craigs years ago, and though i paid the proper price ($600 for a chinese plywood) the guy who sold it to me was a total d-bag. tried to convince me he had been gigging with this thing for years, how he loved it so much and how he hated to part with it. the bass was virtually (and obviously) brand new, and it was embarrassing to watch him spin this yarn to make sure i'd buy it. but whatever, i took it home. man, that bass sucked..

oh, forgot to mention he made me meet him on the side of a country road practically in the middle of nowhere, as if it was some kind of drug deal or something. sketchy guy, he probably stole the bass to unload it for quick cash..
