Dave Holland Quintet...2nd row :)

A bunch of the music students from school went to see Dave Holland's quintet last night. Honestly, it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

They played mostly new material from the recent album, but they also did "Shifting Sands" from the album Not for Nothin'. Coincidentally, Shifting Sands is also my favourite tune from that album . Dave played what was easily the single most melodic bass solo I've ever heard. I was surprised how absolutely little of his playing was in thumb position, but he still played the stuffing out of the bass on his solos.

Really nice guys, too -- all very willing to talk to the audience after the show. A buddy of mine asked Chris Potter about when he was soloing at the same time as Robin Eubanks (sp?) and he was more than willing to go very in depth about it.

Good to hear - I've got tickets to see them at the Barbican in London on 18th November, when they are joined by Jim Hall in a birthday celebration for Dave !!
