That's right, friends, now you can enjoy all the inconvenience of a large, fragile double-bass, including (but not limited to) the transportation problems, along with the low likelihood of ever finding a suitable case,
AND
also revel in all the sonic compromises built into a short-scale, fretted, magnetic-pickup bass guitar, with all the instant-depreciation that BGs are so justly renowned AND dramatically-diminished resale prospects unique to this particular instrument. Comes complete with our RattleMaster endpin.
We've done most of the sanding for you -- any finish problems are exclusively your own. And if you think there are any troubles that might come from bolting a neck onto a softwood body, why heck, Junior, you're just thinking too hard, now.
Act now, friends. Blink and you will miss it.

But not for that money, maybe 25$. But in all honesty, in that situation you can just stand up an electric in your lap and call it a day.

Dug fir is not what I would call my first choice to make any instrument from, the stuff splits and cracks and checks more then most soft woods. I go through tons of it in my day job. Also rots really easy....
Worthless? maybe. Looks silly to me, no more no less.

Because it looks lame.
Because if I wanted to I could build one that looked nicer.
Because this is the DB forum and it is a BG on a stick.
Because we have better things to do.
Because collecting pokemon would be more productive in the long run. |

Worthless? maybe. Looks silly to me, no more no less. | FWIW, some nice instruments have been constructed using properly cut and seasoned Fir........but yeah that bass body is good for some laughs. I remember seeing one of Hank Ballard's bassists use something like that and ***left handed*** as well. |

I think Ross [Paul's friend] made a bass out of it and when I was looking for wood for my "some day I'm building a bass" project the guy from Orcas Island tonewoods suggested I look for some reclamed dug fir but still, not what my first choice would be, I work with the stuff almost every day, I know it well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
