DB and Hernia surgery

Hey all,

Just had hernia surgery today, and they said I can't lift more than 10 lbs for a while.... like a couple of weeks. I want/need to get back soon ... already taking a big financial hit on this weekends' gigs.

Everyone I play with is happy to help move gear, but moving my upright is something I'm not comfortable handing over to anyone. Anyone else go through this? Comments or advice appreciated.

I had mine in March. Luckily, I play in pit's and left my bass at work. It took me like 6 or 7 weeks to feel good about doing a lot of moving and 10 weeks before I went back to the gym. It's no fun but you don't want to re-injure it. On the good side, 8 months later, I can't even remember the crazy pain I was in a year ago.

I let my band mates help me with my gear... they didn't mind and we still made the dates.

Cheers,
John

Its just amazing how many men I know have had hernia surgery.

Clearly a design flaw...

Gone through this surgery twice in the past 4 years. Don't even think about moving your bass for 6 weeks at least. It's just not worth risking ruining your surgery.
I used the same solution as many others here...get help from the other band members.

Hey fellas,

Thanks for the feedback

I'm doing pretty good 48 hrs later ... finally was allowed to take a shower ... things we're getting pretty funky and not in a musical way

Yeah I can definitely see not moving the bass for a while, especially in and out of the car ... even the lightest coughing or laughing is a form of torture (even with the drugs) On the other hand I can walk and go up and down steps without any impediment. I may try to rumble out a few notes tomorrow ... I can't stand not playing!!

cheers - Sven
