A Disgrace If There Ever Was One

Words fail me.
Tramp, jerk, travesty, et al are insufficient.

Someone left this profound comment in support of the artist.

"OK GUYS LET ME DROP SOME INFO ON U N A SERIOUS WAY... Check this every style of this song i have heard theres about 15 n they r all different but Amy's is unique bcuz its lik she's trying to mix the jazz with a lil blues and modern dae sound i wish she woulda kept it but its her style and i actually appericate the song its koo its her so if u dnt like it thats ur fukn opinion plaese post it but come with a stronger reason than b4 its nice coulda been better but she did it!!!!!!!!"

Now how can you argue with that logic?

Oh great... now they'll be wheeling her onstage on a hand truck at all the summer "jazz fests".

I cried "Uncle" and pulled the plug on this travesty before sixty seconds had elapsed.

Just played this last night in a beautiful trio setting with vocalist. Acoustic grand piano, double bass, small trap set. I was reminded of what a beautifully written tune this is, how it offers so much and almost plays itself if you get out of the way.

Ms. Winhouse, good to know she has heard the tune but I think her rendition pretty much misses the point. In a glass is half full sort of way, maybe after listening to Amy's version, lots of younger people will go back and check out some of the more iconic jazz versions of the tune.
They're only a UTube search away!

Now, I'm gonna go and throw up!

Man, I'm all about trying to make a tune your own but putting an acid jazz type beat and some muted trumpet does not an arrangement make. Plus her singing, which is usually pretty good I must admit, is really awful on this track.

This track makes me want to ruin my life with heavy drug use too.

Search her name on youtube for No Greater Love or Teach Me Tonight or Tenderly--more straightahead but not straight, clearly her own style. Round Midnight completely misses but those others are interesting. I hope she is managing to reverse her self-destructive path.

How about Pat Boone covering a Brad Mehldau version of Amy Winehouse doing a Monk tune?
