do you retract the end pin for a bass stand?

i just purchased a new upright today and i got a bass stand with it. it is the common looking stand, it has two arms to hold the bass and a cup for the end pin. the end pin slips a little on this bass so i have to tighten it a lot and its a pain to keep doing that every time i want to play. would it be okay to just leave the end pin out in playing hight or should i retract it to put it on the stand? i hope that made sence?

I never retract the endpin. My stand has arms that you can move to keep the endpin in its place, so it always clears.
