I use Heritage Ins. So far so good, though I have yet to file a claim.

I'm actually thinking of dropping my coverage and being self insured. My gear just isn't all that valuable.

I've got MusicPro and while I haven't had to make a claim, the peace of mind is worth it. Those who have had to make a claim seem to be satisfied. Between my son's drums and my basses, we've got instruments and gear stashed in several locations (college housing, church auditorium, garage). None of it is "collectable" but it's surprising how quickly the total value of a drum set or bass rig can add up. I think my annual premium is somewhere around $150 for $15,000 worth of coverage.

My insurance agent is setting me up with a policy for my non-professional instruments/bows and a separate policy for the one instrument that I use professionally. Though for about $20 more I can insure them all in the professional capacity (so I'm covered if for some reason I need to use a different bass in a paid gig). So, I'll likely go for the higher premium to cover everything (I think it's about $160 a year at most).

I just got the final insurance policy quote, and State Farm decided to go with the Eberle bass standard list price (before it was marked down to the liquidated price of $950). Also, I got a quote from my luthier for set up costs ($600), so my agent recommended something in the neighborhood of $2550. That would take care of completely replacing my instrument if something happened.

That amount will eventually go up after Ideal Music sells out their stock of Eberles.
