double bass on via rail?

Just wondering if anyone on here has travelled with their bass in Canada by VIA Rail? If so, did you check it in the baggage car? Buy a second seat? Run into any problems?

Interested about this as well. Anyone have experience with Amtrak as well? Particularly Montreal > Toronto > New York.

I'm not sure about Amtrak or VIA, but I know that most trains on NJ Transit have an area at either end of the car meant for people in wheelchairs, with large luggage, or otherwise unable to get to the top or bottom seats. There's enough room there to hold maybe four guys all with uprights in flight cases. I'd think Amtrak would be the same way. Not sure about VIA Rail though.
