Double Bassist Required, London UK

Hello All,

It's been a long while since I posted on talkbass. Namely since I had to stop playing the double bass nearly 2 years back.

I'm currently looking for a London based double bassist to workshop some of my current compositional ideas with.

The music is in trio format of non-pitched percussion (textural as well as rhythmic), contrabassoon and doublebass, although the initial workshopping will just be contra' and bass.

Genre wise I suppose it would be classed as contemporary music. If you buy music from boomkat this would slot into the home listening category. If you attend concerts at Cafe Oto this would fit in there.
Anyone is welcome so long as they are handy with a bow and can get some aggressive pizz' tones.

My musical background lies in various forms of improvised music and to some degree this has informed my writing.
There are some open sections to the scoring so the potential for improvising is there so too some collaborative writing within the aesthetic, but don't worry if this is not something you've done before.

The music is simple, with a focus on lower frequencies (not surprising given the instruments involved). It is tonal, but with usage of textural sounds. It is generally slow paced with lots of sustained tones.
There's a fair bit of bowing and a jazz based pizz (ie a more sustaining sound) is required.
The bass could be regarded as the main instrument, but you must be happy to do relatively little at times.

Initially we'd just be testing the waters, seeing how certain sounds voice etc. If it works I'd like to record a short run EP, but this wouldn't be a commercial venture by any means.

I've only given very, very vague outline here so please drop me a line for more details and to chat further.

Thanks
Thomas
