PS: Best thread ever.

I realized what they meant when I took possesion of my bro in law's DB last summer. Not playing for 25 years to concentrate on BG, I forgot how physical an instrument the DB is. I will restate Chris' question though with this thought; I still had to learn function, form, and style on BG, so playing is pretty much the same in that regard. Physically the DB is more demanding, so the question remains - Ignorant of what?

To be honest I have met a huge surplus of ignorant EBers. But, on the other hand I have met alot of stupid Bassists. I have found smart EBrs to so it goes both ways.

The obvious answer to both of these questions is a resounding YES.
Now leave me alone, it's time for my nap. |

It's not reciprocal. Most of the DB players I know are likewise better informed about things like theory, musicianship, timing, playing in a group, etc. than their BG counterparts, who from what I've seen, are lucky if they know that there are two strings above the E and A on their 4-banger.
The OP's question is a valid one. I rehearse in the same studio with a lot of hard rock and metal bands. BG players are by and large knuckle-draggers musically when compared to your average DB player. That's fine, it just means more work for us better-informed bassists.

Eyes to the floor buddy!
I do NOT play DB and like Jaco said,

A little BG insecurity on someones part?
Being a father and having raised my kid, I'd say, leave the adults alone or I'll take away your play station.
