Favorate or strangest clubs

There are so many strange venues out there. What are favorites?
One that sticks out for me sort of helped me get into jazz. If you ever lived in NY you've probably been to Smalls. It closed a while back and I cant remember if it reopened or not. It was ten bucks and it was open from about 10 to 8 (except it usually shut down by 6). It used to be that if you approached the owner and used the password "do elves have to pay?" you could get in for free. I remember taking the last train in from westchester, grabbing a big jug of cheap wine, (Smalls didn't sell any liquor but you were welcomed to bring your own) and just hanging out until morning. The jam session started around four am. A pianist I used to play with hit the session there once and got knocked off of the piano mid-song. He was and still is one of the best players I know. He told me that the song was getting strange, the drummer was doing some weird 4 on the floor and bass player was not too strong and that guy (Sasha Peri I think his name is), pushed my friend aside to Finnish the song. If you've ever been to the Smalls session that story probably wouldn't surprise you. That's the kind of place it was.

Wow... so many. This should be a good thread. Smalls is a great way to kick it off!

I'm going to go way out in left field, because it just popped into my mind... "Thumbs Up", in Yokohama. I was on a tour of big concert halls throughout Japan, and the promoter surprised us with a club date at the end. As soon as we walked in for soundcheck, we said "we're going long tonight", and we did. Very funky, old guitars hanging all over the walls, audience right in your face. A cool club in one of my favorite cities.
