Just wondering who the rest of you may be listening to and loving. Paul's abbreviated list included Joao Bosco, Simone Pedacos, Ivan Lins, Elis Regina and Tonino Horta.
I'd want to add Elis Reginas' daughter Maria Rita, Trio de Paz, Djavan, and Milton Nacimento to the rotation that I listen to regularly. Anybody else have some favorites that I might really like to add to this list?
Here is a duet with Rosa Passos and Ivete Sangalo that leaves me weak in the knees. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVNLLYwejds

Your clip was so beautiful, as were both ladies.
I like Chico Buarque, as well as the ones you mentioned.
Here he is with Milton on an old clip doing his tune O Que Sera.
I did some posts here a while back talking about the political statements hidden in the lyrics of some of the older Brazilian tunes. This is one of those....I'm recording this as a bass solo soon..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0RjFhymjho

For Samba there is Jorge Aragao who is fantastic as well.

Funny how years ago I didn't think much of Sergio Mendes. Of course I was into Led Zepplin back then, so that might account for it. But now I realize his bands have always been burning!
I've got a good sampling of Egberto- always loved the trio records with Jan Garbarek and Charlie Haden. That blending of cultures that makes Brazil what it is seems to make the trio work also.
I dug what I checked out of Jorge Aragao..... |

I grew up with a Brazilian Auntie/cousins in the family, so I was heavily exposed (for a white boy living in the armpit of Canada) to all the classic stuff at an early age. Brazil '66, Jobim, etc etc.
Did anyone else crack up at Sergio Mendes playing with The Black Eyed Peas in "Be Cool"? Felt like I was the only one in the theatre laughing at that one... |

And Luciana is fantastic, too.
I got to hang with Cesar and bassist Luizao Maia many years ago in Sao Paolo at a couple of clubs. We had a jam session - big fun, and their playing was quite a revelation to me.

+ 10 zillion on Gal Costa as well. Ivan Lins, especially for the writing.
And of course, Hermeto Pascoal.

If anyone is familiar with Wes Anderson's 'The Life Aquatic,' he's the crew member who does Portuguese renditions of David Bowie songs. He actually has an album solely composed of Bowie covers, which is excellent! He's done a few great performances up at Montreux, but I can't seem to find them on Youtube, so here's a cover of Rock and Roll Suicide by Bowie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc2sFlrUhzk. Enjoy! |

This one was actually produced by Mario Caldato Jr., who is probably best known for his work with the Beastie Boys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN-pSa4c0Fk |

Do any of you know her music? I don't think I have heard her before & my library doesn't have any of her disks.
Can you tell me anything about Luciana Sousa?
