Favorite Concert Halls

This topic came up in another thread which I think would be kind of neat to discuss. What's your favorite concert hall and why?

Well, my favorite one to play at is the Tivoli theater here in Chattanooga.

My reason? Because it was the only major one I ever played at.

Though, my HS orchestra did get invited to go to Carnegie hall but our conductor left that year so plans were scrambled.

I guess my favorite hall would probably be Orchestra Hall in Chicago where the Chicago Symphony plays. The first time I played at Orchestra Hall, I had never felt a higher level of professionalism. To play where my teacher plays for a living is just a moment I will always have with me for the rest of my life. The acoustics are also amazing. I never had a problem hearing myself or anyone else. I played at Ravinia one time but it was just horrible. No one could here anyone on stage while we were performing. All though, the experience was amazing.

I'll have my chance. Next June the CYS will play there. I'm sure something will happen to keep me from doing it.

My dream concert hall is to play at the Berlin Philharmonie.

Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and Strathmore outside of DC are my two favorites that I've been to. I've heard people say they don't like the acoustics of Verizon Hall but I think it has a nice warm sound that compliments the Philadelphia Orchestras sound nicely. Strathmore is a very clear hall. I have not sat in the audience at Strathmore but it sounds great onstage.

I also like Carnegie Hall and Boston Symphony Hall.

That's a nice one, played there a couple of times. Here in town, the Ryman(original Opry House) is the choice one for smaller audiences and the new symphony hall, Schermerhorn Center, is excellent. As far as bragging rights, I played the London Palladium 2 years ago. Smaller than you'd think, excellent hall but not built for big PAs.

In Tel Aviv there is a great hall called Felicia Blumenthal, it is a very beautiful and totally pro concert hall but shrunk down for small chamber music concerts. It maybe seats 100 but I am thinking less.
It is great to play there because it is a real concert hall but still intimate.

That place is incredible. There really is nothing like it. Maybe Carnegie Hall or Suntory Hall in Japan? Maybe? I've heard the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow is amazing though I've never played there. Once I was in Bucharest, Romania and played in hall I think was called the Atheneum. It was like dying and going to bass heaven. So bass friendly. But even still, the Philharmonie... Wow!
