Finding Private Students

A few of my friends out in Philadelphia are teaching a lot...in the area of 10-15 private students a week. One guy even has a waiting list...but none of them can really explain how they got to that point. Does this sort of thing just happen? But I've only ever had maybe 5 serious students at the most, and they stopped getting lessons once they left for college.

Any tips on how to find new students? I really enjoy teaching as much as playing and I'd love to make that my part time job instead of making sandwiches for people!

Craigslist but I have to say, times are tough right now. You could also flyer your neighborhood and try the schools.

Yeah, try the schools. Its the beginning of the school year, so I'm sure there are plenty of shcools were new students are coming in/trying out instruments/picking up bass/switching to bass. That means there will probably be a ton of new students looking for teachers. If you can get their orchestra directors to connect them with you, you may be able to pick up quite a few students. Good luck.

So far, craigslist, and a camp I worked at over the summer seem to be my best resources. The schools usually just blow me off..

But, I have a lot of friends graduating this year who are looking to teach in the public school system. I think they might be a little bit cooler about sending some students my way.

I'm having a flyer made by a graphic designer, and I'll print it out on good quality paper, etc.. target certain neighborhoods to post it in .. here's hoping
