Fun on Thursday

Most a you folks know I work for a museum, I'm a buyer for the retail department and I get all kinds of free books and invitations for fabulous swell parties and crap- well last night I was attending the launch party/reception for this book at Hermes flagship store on Fifth Ave. Well it's all fabulous and swell, French champagne and Pouilly Fuisse and hors d'ouevres out the wazoo. As I'm checking in with the guest list gal, I hear somebody else asking "Do you guys have a band?" and one of the other hostettes says "yes, the Barry Harris Trio is playing."

So I get upstairs and it's Barry and Ray Drummond and (I think) Grady Tate. I hadda cut out before I could talk to any of the cats cause I wanted to catch a set over at Sofia's - it was a great trio; Mike Kanan, Neal Miner and Eliot Zigmund. They were doing a bunch of arrangements from a new trio record of Neal's that will be out soon (with Mike and I think Tom Melito on drums).

Anyway, all to say I freakin love NY...

How is Eliot? I did a short tour with him way back when but haven't heard much about him since.

Woody Allen, The film "Celebrity". That paints a picture of NY too!

You are a lucky man indeed, Mr. Fuqua.

I want to see the bright lights, but I still haven't made it beyond the airport in when I've been in NY.

Eliot's been doing great. We've managed to play a lot over the last coupla years, but it seems like he's a lot more on the scene than in times past, Andrew Emer's done some gigs with him, he seems pretty hooked up with Mike Kanan lately bunch of other stuff around.

But his health is great, if that's what you were asking?

Yeah, just wondering in general. Glad he's still around and playing. I think the last time I saw him was 1980 or so and I remember him as a good guy and musician.

The only bright lights we've seen around here was when the transformer on the power pole blew up last spring....Pouilly Fuisse? That wouldn't have possum meat in it would it? Hell, we eat that all the time!
