Most a you folks know I work for a museum, I'm a buyer for the retail department and I get all kinds of free books and invitations for fabulous swell parties and crap- well last night I was attending the launch party/reception for
this book at Hermes flagship store on Fifth Ave. Well it's all fabulous and swell, French champagne and Pouilly Fuisse and hors d'ouevres out the wazoo. As I'm checking in with the guest list gal, I hear somebody else asking "Do you guys have a band?" and one of the other hostettes says "yes, the Barry Harris Trio is playing."
So I get upstairs and it's Barry and Ray Drummond and (I think) Grady Tate. I hadda cut out before I could talk to any of the cats cause I wanted to catch a set over at Sofia's - it was a great trio; Mike Kanan, Neal Miner and Eliot Zigmund. They were doing a bunch of arrangements from a new trio record of Neal's that will be out soon (with Mike and I think Tom Melito on drums).
Anyway, all to say I freakin love NY...
