Funny Comment at a Gig

hey guys,
i just got back from a gig. it was a good gig, but its a jam session...

so you get some occasional singers who think they are the band leaders and tell everyone that "thanks for coming out to our jam session. we will be here next week"..... but my favorite was this and its not the kids fault.

so he says..." i wanna play summertime."

i say..." cool. where you want it and what key"

he say..."have you heard the jamey aembersol recording?

man, what the hell has this word come to. it not his fault, but man... at least the rhythm section got a good laugh... next high school jazz band directors are going to say you swing the eight note and its a dotted eight sixteenth rhythm... oh wait..

Jamer Aembersol is a cool guy, he comes by Murray State once a year.

But on a more related note, the kid's in high school. I didn't know anything in high school.

You should have counted off "one, two, three, four"

In western pop music, sometimes triplets make 3/4 seem like 4/ 4, and vice versa, as in "Summertime". 16th note pickup notes get you there.

"1 2 3 4" works for the introducing tune........
