Ganglion Cysts

Anyone have any experience(s) with ganglion cysts? I got a doozy on the top of my left wrist. Only hurts after a couple of hours playing...

I had one for a few years on top of my right wrist. It came and went a few times and then went away altogether. I never really did anything to treat it.

I don't have first hand knowledge but my daughter had one treated last fall. The two courses of treatment were to 1. Drain the liquid from the cyst and inject a steriod to promote healing of the tear in the ligament or 2. surgery to repair the tear. We tried option 1 first, which as I recall had a pretty good success rate with minimal risk, but the cyst came back so we went to option 2. She had a cast on her hand for a couple of weeks to restrict movement. So far the surgical fix seems to be holding. It was a plastic surgeon that did the treatment, which struck me as odd but maybe that's just our local HMO. - Good luck, Ron

I had one for a while but it went away on its own after a few months.

My brother also had one and the doctor wacked it with a hammer to get rid of it!!

Had the same experience here. I think it was more like 6-8 months. It left on its own and has never come back.

I've heard about that "Cure it with a hammer," thing too. Maybe I bumped it real good and didn't realize it. Not that I'm recommending it ...
