| Go Seattle high school jazz bands!
Just wanted to congratulate my alma mater, Garfield HS, for taking first place at the Essentially Ellington jazz festival this year. Congrats also to perennial friendly rival Roosevelt HS for taking second place.
Since 2000, Garfield and Roosevelt have each taken first place at Essentially Ellington three times, and one (or both) schools have been in the top three every single year since then. This is a testament to the incredible teachers, hard working students, and supportive parents at Seattle high schools. Seattle's public schools are helping to keep jazz alive and well among young people.
