Strings are still in good shape, but boy I certainly do not have the calluses I used to! I used to play restaurant gigs unplugged all the time... I was asked to play one tonight so I said sure, they were expecting me to bring my electric, but I really felt like playing my upright since its so beautiful and havent played it for a very very long time...
I knew this would happen...

I had blisters as a kid and my fingers bled a few times (from guitar not bass), but they never looked like that. Take care so they don't get infected. ouch... |

and I thought MY blisters from upright are bad. well, my strings are super old too, and rough as hell. still, I only get a couple small blisters on my index finger. Nothing like that. sometimes you just gotta drain that sucker and take it like a man.
upright bass, I swear. Figures the most laborious instrument to play is also the most unappreciated.

Like the OP, my main instrument is bass guitar and I really wasn't expecting to play that much upright on that audition. The blues band had other ideas. Quote: |

Isn't that the truth...? | I agree upon that that's unfortunately true.. Seems like sometimes history and beauty together are stupid combination for people But anyway, it's not the reason not to play it, so rock on

EDIT: In a classic case of speak first, think later, I just read your profile. You probably don't need advice like that from the likes of me! I'll leave it up anyway for posterity, but don't take it personally!

cant really get the side of your middle finger to dig in as much...
feels really good to play the upright again though thats for sure! |
