Help - Wheels

Allright, what's the deal with bass wheels? I have avoided owning one for a long time, but am ready to roll, when appropriate. However, I can't quite figure out how they work.

They appear to replace the end pin, except that my end pin doesn't seem to come out. It, of course, extends to NBA bassist heights, but seems to have a stop of some kind that keeps it from actually releasing from the bass.

Before I order a wheel from somewhere, can anyone explain what I'm not understanding about either bass wheels or my end pin?

Troy

Troy, I'd just remove that annoying stop if I were you. Extend the endpin completely, saw it off ( I know), push the remaining bit back into the bass and fish it out of the f-hole. Et voilą! Now you have a removable (albeit somewhat shorter) endpin.

The other way to do it is push the endpin all the way in until it falls inside the bass then fish it out through the f-hole. Then you can put it in a clamp and get out the old hacksaw.

What about those bass buggy things like Kolsteins or the one occasionally advertized in the left margin of this forum? Looks like rollerblade or luggage wheels on a sling that goes around the endpin. A little more expensive, but better design? I like that no where in this operating instructions do the words "hacksaw" or "fish it out through the f-hole" appear.

Maybe I'm just being a wimp.
