How big are your hands? (DB Forum thread)

So I was wondering, how big are your hands? I know some people use regular units, but being musicians, we usually measure using intervals on a piano. Also, if you think age might be a factor, go ahead and say that too.

I'll go first: I can stretch a P11 on a keyboard, but it's only practical for me to stretch for a Maj. 10th.

Edit: I'm 16, so my hands might not be at full size yet.

Tom. Your supposed to lie when the young ones start with this nonsense. You know, once PW gets a load of this, he's gonna have to be the biggest, the best and the smartest.......so why not say a length of 11 inches and a width of 4.5? Just in case he starts intimidating with his "go time" Sienfeld stuff. Yeah. That's what I'm going with.

From where to where exactly...?

My hands merge seamlessly into my wrists and there is no cut-off point!! Thankfullly!!

If I stretch my thumb and fingers out as far as possible - then there is a distance of at least 9 inches between the tip of my thumb and the tip of my smallest finger. I might be able to stretch a bit more with practice!!

well, if you want to take frets as a reference, it's not going to work

anyways, on topic: I have tiny hands (I'd say one octave on a piano)

Thread cleaned to make it forum specific.

To answer the question: on the piano, a usable major 10th, or an 11th that plays an extra note with the thumb and hurts. By the rules, 9 3/8" from tip of pinkie to tip of thumb. None of which means much, because it's all about technique in the end.

Thumbs up

That reminds me of my old friend, the comedian Pete Barbutti. He used to play "Holiday for Strings" on the piano with his nose. Then he'd say "You oughta see me at a stag party".

10 1/4 thumb to pinky and 5 1/2 inches across the palm. I can really slap. I mean a face of course I can also clap at least 20db louder than the people around me

Proper technique of course will help you stretch.

After coming off the stage a rather fetching but VERY drunk lass came up to me and said in her best English (with an attempt at sounding sexy through the slurring) "you know what they say about guys with big hands"

My response "Big gloves?"

The look of confusion was worth the price of admission.

I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

If only we could use these to play awkward intervals on bass.

My left hand is 26 cm tip to tip (about 10.2 inches) The more interesting thing is that my left hand is about 1 cm longer than my right. I guess all that stretching in first position paid off.

When I spread my fingers out as far as possible, my index to pinky distance is about a half inch longer on my left hand than my right hand. It's kind of a point of pride that playing bass has caused my hand to open so much. I can comfortably play a tenth on the piano, and can reach an eleventh.

My hands are sooo big, that usually I can hear a standard played rubato once, and understand all the chord changes. Yep, they're darn big. . .

Every time I post a gig spam under this forum header it gets knock down with this kinda weird.
Okay, since you guys are all timid and are skating around ground zero, I'll do it.
Godammit, my hands are BIG. My fingers are LONG. My shoe size is a 12. My bass is a healthy 7/8. My arms and legs are LONG.

My **** is GIGANTIC.

Isn't there a truism that any time a few guys get together, it effectively turns into a "measuring contest"....
